IMA & HCFI to organise first of its kind public webcast on radiation oncology

An extension of its on-going weekly webcasts for medical professionals organized in association with healthcare start-up EmediNexus

Webcast panelists will include Dr. Tejinder Kataria, Chairperson Radiation Oncology at Medanta – The Medicity and Padma Shri Awardee Dr. KK Aggarwal – President HCFI & Honorary Secretary General IMA

New Delhi, June 1st, 2016: The incidence of cancer continues to grow at an alarming rate in our country. It is in fact not uncommon to know at least one person in the family or friends who has been diagnosed with the disease.  While advances in cancer treatment and changes in health care systems over the past decade have led to shorter hospital stays and higher survival rates of patients; the emotional and social trauma that the disease puts the patient through is life-altering.

Aimed at raising mass awareness and connecting the public to specialists in the country, the Indian Medical Association in association with the Heart Care Foundation of India has started the concept of its public webcasts every Thursday from 3:30-4pm. This week’s webcast will be on radiation oncology and the faculty will include Dr. Tejinder Kataria, Chairperson Radiation Oncology at Medanta – The Medicity and Padma Shri Awardee Dr. KK Aggarwal – President HCFI & Honorary Secretary General IMA. Speaking about the same, Padma Shri Awardee Dr KK Aggarwal – Honorary Secretary General IMA & President HCFI said, "Most forms of cancer are preventable and curable provided it is detected early. There is an urgent need to raise awareness about the various causes of cancer and ways to halt its growing incidence. Tobacco consumption or exposure to second hand smoke is responsible for over 70% of all cancers in our country. Stricter laws regarding smoking in public places and as well as discouraging youngsters from getting addicated to cigarettes must be put in place. Through this public webcast with Dr. Tejinder Kataria we will be looking at answering all public queries around radiation oncology as well as sharing preventive tips.”

In the past, the webcast faculty has included experts such as Dr Sanjiv Chopra – Professor Harvard Medical College, Dr Praveer Agarwal, Director Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, Padma Shri Awardee Dr Yash Gulati, Joint Replacement and Spine Surgeon - Apollo Hospital and Dr Harit Chaturvedi - Chairman, Max Institute of Oncology.
